Making Masks and Midwife Kits
With a shortage of availability of face masks both in the US and Mexico, GPA board president Kate Kentfield-Kessner in California, and Luz Romo in Mexico are busy sewing face masks. The masks in Mexico will be included in the midwife kits we are delivering to over 500 traditional midwives and community health promoters in rural villages throughout Chiapas. We are also hoping to sew enough face masks for the pregnant women these midwives care for. GPA has been assembling midwife kits that include alcohol, antibacterial gel, soap, gloves, face masks, cotton, thermometers, as well as midwifery supplies, and information in indigenous languages on prevention of and protocols for the Covid-19 virus.
GPA has launched an Emergency Action Fund to among other things, be able to continue to provide kits to midwives and health promoters during the pandemic.
