Reducing Violence Against Women and Girls in Chiapas, Mexico

One in three women worldwide have experienced some sort of violence. In the Los Altos region of Chiapas, Mexico more than 40% of indigenous women and girls 15 and older have experienced violence at the hands of an intimate partner, according to the Center for Women's Rights in Chiapas. As a response, GPA has launched a community-wide campaign through the use of an interactive play in the Tseltal and Tsotsil languages in 12 communities, followed by discussions with women, men, youth and local authorities. The goal is to have whole communities reflect on this crisis and develop strategies to prevent it. Please watch our short video on the campaign. Violence against women and girls is preventable. This year we are extending this campaign to additional communities and working to put action plans in place to address this crisis situation.
